A Subtle Bit of 70s Style: How To Work The Trend

I thought I would channel some inner 70's chick this week on my blog, I think a couple of style shake ups are needed for me this year. I really want to start expanding my style horizons and try out new shapes and cuts and try and bring you more wearable versions of high street and catwalk trends. Chunky heeled boots and 70s vibes have been really popular in the latter half of last year on the catwalk and in high street stores, but for me it was all a little too much for my personal taste. However a-line skirts are a really sweet way to incorporate a 70s edge to a look without it being a full on blast from the past.

Black turtlenecks are a staple in my day to day style, so incorporating something I love into a new style of outfit is something I like to do if I am not wanting to delve straight into the style and want to give it my own personal edge and make the look work around my own likes and dislikes. I paired the turtle neck with a suede tan a-line skirt that fits like a dream, I absolutely love this shade as it has a really beautiful warmth about it, which I wanted to bring out with my little red Lady Dior Mini, the burnt red lipstick and the red heels on my boots. The high ankle boots were the icing on the retro cake for this look, and as these are probably one of my current favourite pair of boots, it make the look even more perfect. A-line skirts are one of the classic skirt shapes and really suit so many body types whether you're tall or short (like me). They aren't all 70s however, there are some really stunning ones available online at ASOS and Boohoo that just allow you to wear a skirt without it being really tight, or too girly like a skater skirt would be.

The Hart Spa & Some Pre-Birthdy Pampering

A few days before my birthday I was lucky enough to go and visit The Hart Spa just outside of Birmingham for a lovely day of pre-birthday pampering. I got the train to Birmingham New Street station after an early start, and I arrived for around 10am. The new station by the way is absolutely gorgeous, there is a MAC, Jo Malone and The White Company all within the station, I was in train station/shopping heaven. The lovely Monique picked my up from the station and we went to the spa. The spa itself is situated within a really beautiful garden centre, and I am sure you'll agree the outside aesthetic is so cute and welcoming.

As it was my birthday weekend I wanted to have my nails done and I really went all out and had full on copper/rose gold glitter all over and I felt like a sparkly unicorn birthday princess and it was spectacular. I then was lucky enough to be treated to a massage with Lava Shell Therapy as well. I never knew how tense the back of my body was until I was massaged, Monique mentioned how I had one of the most tense backs she had ever massaged (oops!) so it was less relaxing and more in order to try and get rid of the knots in my muscles. I really loved how I felt like the massage was doing my body good, and I know I should probably try and have massage treatment more often as I am obviously carrying my stresses out on my muscles. The Lava Shells were so relaxing, the warmth of the shells and the oil used for the massage just felt so soft and relaxing on my back, especially due to my back being so tense. It really helped my muscles relax and my body and mind relax as well.

I know I will now, if I ever go for a massage choose an option where heat is involved as I could feel the treatment doing my muscles good as I was having it. I am the type of person who's mind struggles to relax and shut down, and in order to tackle this, within the massage room Monique uses Chromotherapy, which is using different mood lighting dependant on how you're feeling or what you're wanting to feel. I chose every colour as I am oh so indecisive. After this fabulous massage I had the yummiest chicken teriyaki wrap and went for a spot of shopping at the Bullring.

Well needed relaxation. Something I think I need more of... How you do relax when you need some down time?

High End Lip Favourites - Mac, Bobbi Brown, Tom Ford and more.

Make Up is undeniably a favourite of mine, and I haven't half managed to build up the nice collection (which I am very much in need of storing well so if anyone knows any good make up storage that isn't super expensive do let me know!) so I thought I would give a review on my favourite high end bits of make up I like! I hope this may help if you are thinking of making a high end purchase to treat yourself but are not sure whether some things are actually worth the money. I want to do a few more of these for you so I thought I would start off with one of my favourites, lip products!

I thought I would start with a good old favourite, Mac Lipsticks! Now, I know Mac lipsticks are always talked about and they are immensely popular but I do think that they are a really lovely in-between drug store and really high end make up prices at a still great quality. The first ever colour I owned was Ruby Woo (the top shade on my top swatch) as I bought this for my prom make up I wanted to do on myself. I am not going to lie this shade did not give me the impression I was hoping for as I was unaware of how notoriously drying this shade was - and it really is... This is why I bought 'Russian Red' which is the secondary red colour on the swatch. Ruby Woo really did dry out my lips and I found it unpleasant to wear for long periods of time and having a to reapply throughout the day normally but my lips were chapped underneath from using this lipstick. I would recommend Russian Red as a very similar if not nicer shade that is not drying at all compared. Ruby Woo and Russian Red are both really lovely true red shades in a matte formula (my favourite).

The next two shades are my nude/brown shades and are the ones I reach for the most. My absolute favourite Mac lipstick is without a doubt Velvet Teddy (the bottom shade of the bottom swatches), for the amount of use I have had from it, and the colour itself with its wearability. I fell in love with this shade funnily enough before it became all over social media as the shade everyone wanted. I bought this passing through Duty Free Beauty on the way to Turkey about 3 years ago and I just fell in love with how this looks on my skin tone. This shade definitely varies dependant on your skin tone so do make sure you try it out first just to see what the colour payoff is like on your skin! This is in matte formula. The second is a much more brown shade, it is in the shade Touch and I absolutely love this when I want to wear a really true brown colour but one that is not too dark, this is not a matte shade it is in fact a lustre shade meaning the colour payoff is really lovely and strong. I highly recommend all of these shades bar Ruby Woo, alongside recommending Mac lipsticks themselves for the quality of product for the price you pay. The range of shades available at Mac is also amazing!

Mac Lipsticks - here!

The next lipstick is one I haven't actually tried out yet... sorry! I am too scared to ruin its beautiful aesthetic, but I know the shade looks really beautiful on swatches I have seen online so I think this would be a really good colour for me to start wearing in everyday simple make up looks where I just need a simple nude lip to match the rest of my 'natural' look! These lipsticks are indeed very pricey, therefore I think if you are wanting to splurge on something like a Tom Ford lipstick it would need to be either a shade you know you're going to get a lot of use out of, or one you can keep for special wear.

Tom Ford Lipstick - here

Bobbi Brown was one of the first brands I really wore make up from, when my Mum got married I was in year 7 so wearing make up was not exactly within the routine yet. For her wedding we went out a bought our make up, and due to it being one of the first brands and make up items I used, I continued to use it for a long time. I have come to really enjoy the formula of their lipsticks, these 3 are my favourites. I just realised there are a lot of red shades within this post, but I promise you they are all different in their own ways! Different shades people!!
The two gold shades I think were from a special collection but I know for a fact the shades are available or shades that are pretty much identical are available in the normal ranges. I have shades 'Bordeaux' and 'Sultry Red' (the deep plum/red shade and the bright Monroe red shade on the swathes). These are just two really staple red shades for me which is why I love them, the red is very bright and classic which means I can wear it with some simple black winged liner or just if I want to dress up a little bit more. The dark shade is a really lovely one I like to wear in autumn and winter months, not everyone is confident enough to wear deep shades during this time of year so if you're wanting to try shades that suit this time of year but don't want to dark reds/plum colours I would advice going for a brown toned nude shade like Touch by Mac mentioned earlier!

The final shade is my favourite of the three, it is Scarlet, it is a really gorgeous deep burnt red shade and makes your teeth look so beautiful and white! This shade is just everything I love in a red which is why I could not resist putting it on this list!

Matte Lip Colour - here

Now, I did want to put in the Mac lipliners that I have but I stupidly have misplaced all 3 of them (!!!!!) so I wasn't able to photograph them for you but I have; Stripdown, which is a lovely brown to go with Velvet Teddy or Touch or any brown/nude lip colour, Cherry, which I bought to go with the red shades and then Fruit Cocktail which I bought last summer when flying to Spain as its a gorgeous light peach shade that looks killer with a tan.

These two NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are really great to use either as a lip liner or a all over lip colour due to the chubby applicated. Side note: If anyone knows how the heck I sharpen these PLEASE let me know, I am sure I am being stupid but I am in need of assistance! Mysterious Red is lovely as an all over red colour or a liner for red lipstick, I use it for both. The second shade Walkyrie is a beautiful more pink/mauve toned nude lip colour with a matte finish, and its a really lovely more warm alternative to just a brown toned nude lip. This one is most definitely my favourite of the two, the formula is really nice however I wish it stayed longer on my lips throughout the day.

NARS Lip Pencil - here

I'm really not a huge lipgloss wearer I must admit, I am much more of a matte lip kinda gal. However I do have a few favourites I have got over the past few years that I wanted to include in here. The first two are the two Dior lip glosses, now I have to admit these were bought due to me being very very easy to sell something too so these were bought at Duty Free when I was on my way to Canada with my dad, I only wanted the nude gloss however I ended up with the red as well. I am very easily persuaded sometimes haha. I really love the wand on these lip glosses, they are a brush and for some reason whether this is the case or not to me it seems you get more product at once, and that just makes me happy. I do like the consistency of these glosses so I would recommend as they are a really lovely high quality of lipgloss. Now my favourite of them all is this Bobbi Brown shade Honey 2, I got this to go with my never ending collection of nude lipsticks and this is such a perfect brown shade, I am also able to wear this by itself and it still have a really lovely sheer colour payoff, and the gloss is a little more sticky and personally I love that.
Finally is this Chanel shade I bought myself for christmas last year, it is a slightly more odd shade you could say, it is a clear gloss with a mirrored iridescent finish, which made it just a little bit different (something I always go for in every single type of product!) which really drew me to this. Chanel glosses are actually really lovely treats to yourself and as gifts, so I would recommend finding an everyday shade to try out first.

A Little Bit of Celine and Prada For Christmas

Did any of you brave the January sales this year? I tried and did have one very fabulous find but I didn't think anywhere was particularly good this year, what do you think? Let me know if you snapped up any goodies this year!
I got this absolutely gorgeous Celine Edge bag for Christmas and my 18th from lovely Joseph and it is absolutely stunning, burgundy is my favourite colour at the moment I am absolutely obsessed with it so this was the most perfect find. I cannot stop wearing this so get ready for it making regular appearances, its too beautiful to not! The boots I am wearing are the best sale purchase I think I have ever made. I had £50 worth of Selfridges vouchers that I had from Christmas presents and knew I wanted to go in and have a look, I have been looking for some more special flats and/or boots for a while as I have tried treating myself to heels but feet issues always cause me problems and I end up regretting what I buy, which is never ever good. These Prada booties were on the shelf in my size in the sale and I fell in love, they were down from £400 to £180 and I had my voucher, and with it being love at first sight I couldn't not, especially as I had been looking for so long for some everyday designer shoes. I took them to the till and the shoe gods must have been on my side as they were reduced even further to £120, so I payed £70 for these beautiful Prada boots, and I have gotten so much wear out of them so far, they couldn't have been a better purchase. I am a very happy lady!

This was the first look I wore these shoes with, it was a really nice and simple everyday look, one which was really wearable. Simple black skinny jeans and chelsea style boots are a combination you can never go wrong with, then adding in a black t shirt and this wool grey coat made a really simple and easy to recreate look. This coat has been one of my favourites this month from Revolve, they have been one of my favourite American brands for a while and I am so glad they are now working over in the UK! There is a link to this beauty below, and have a browse through the site you'll fall in love. Then the finishing touches were this monochrome scarf and my burgundy beauty of a Celine.

Coat - black version here (its on sale too!)

Brand Focus: Pixi by Petra

I want to start doing monthly brand focus posts where I can give some reviews about brands I have a few products from and then I can give you all some reviews and whether I think the items are worth purchasing. It will also allow me to show you all some of my favourite brands and products! I was recently very kindly sent over some bits to try out from Pixi, I was very excited to try out the products as I remember seeing Nikki Tutorials use some of their make up on her channel (and she is amazing so I couldn't not want to try them as well!). I have some reviews of their skincare and a couple of beauty bits so do keep reading if you'd like to hear more! There will also be some links for you so if you're wanting to try out the products yourself then you can! I hope you enjoy!

The first few products I wanted to talk about were my favourites of all the ones I have tried out so far. The first is the Rose Oil Blend (click here to have a look!), I will be the first to admit that skincare is not my best attribute as I am not very good to sticking to a routine really, so having lots of different steps from one brand makes it a lot easier for me as I know that all of the products work together nicely. I have never had any problems with my skin really which allows me to use a variety of styles of face care and it not have any bad effects on me such as break outs. I have found that they type of product that really makes me feel like it is moisturising my skin has always been using an oil. Oils being very thick mean I know that they are long lasting on my skin and they will hydrate it for a long time, I prefer to use oils at night when my skin has enough time to soak in the oil before the next day. This oil really felt nice on my skin and wasn't too thick, the perfect combination for me personally. (It also smells amazing so its a win win, and using the pipette makes you feel like a scientist, well it does me anyway...).
My top two favourites of all of the skincare I tried was by far the Nourishing Sleep Mask (get it here!) and the Hydrating Milky Mist (here). The Nourishing Sleep Mask I just found to work really well for my skin, it works as both a stand alone intensive moisturiser and one to put over the top of other products you use such as cleansers and oils to lock those into your skin overnight so your skin is able to fully absorb them. When I used this as a moisturisers on its own I found that my skin looked really lovely and clear in the morning and I remember actually quite liking the no make up face I was seeing in the mirror (which is impressive trust me...). I also really loved the Milky Mist as I chose to try it out as a primer to my make up, so it would be able to act as the moisturiser it was alongside testing to see whether it was compatible as a primer as well, and it passed both of those. So I would really recommend this if you are currently looking for something to use as a basic primer but also double up as something that can give your skin some more life and moisture at the same time.
Lastly the Cleansing Balm (available here) which was the first cleansing balm I have ever tried, I was  a little sceptical of the concept as I have always used micellar water or make up remover wipes, but this is a really impressive product. It is definitely for those of you who would prefer for your make up  remover to do a little more than simply remove, this feels really nice if used with a cloth and worked into the skin after and then cleaned away.

The last two skincare products I wanted to talk about were the H20 Sundrink and the Glow Mud Cleanser. The H20 Sundrink (available here) I know I am going to love to love in the summer, it is a gel like moisturiser which is very cooling and refreshing so this will most definitely be coming on holiday I bet it will be a lifesaver for my sun dried skin. I bet this will also keep being lovely for just if my skin is feeling a little rundown. The final skincare product is this Mud Cleanser (here), I have never been a huge cleanser user for the sake of cleansing but thats just because my skin has never been very prone to breakouts etc or things I would need to use cleanser for, but when I tried this one out it did leave my skin feeling really lovely and soft, so when I am feeling that my skin is a little clogged or in need of a deep cleanse I will be reaching for this.

The next items are my favourites, beauty!! The look I recently created on my Instagram, like to my profile here was all using these products so I could test them out for you and let you know my thoughts. This lipstick was something that really surprised me. If you have followed me for a while you will know my lip choices tend to be brown shaded nudes or reds and nothing much in-between really, so this pinky peach shade was something I wasn't sure if I would personally like. I swatched the colour before I used it and was really surprised at how pigmented one swipe of the colour was, which immediately made it a winner in my books. I then tried the colour on my lips and was really pleased with the colour payoff and the shade that it came out on my skin, it ended up being a nude toned pink making it a perfect halfway house for me to try something new. This is definitely going to be used more! It is in the shade 'Pink Prosecco' and you can purchase it here, I also really love the look of 'Honey Bare' so I may have to purchase!

This liner is amazing. That is all I am saying. It is absolutely perfect for giving a really sharp winged outline and creating an initial shape for your eyeliner look and also for filling in. I could not recommend it enough. Available here, the value for money on this products is amazing!

These two liners are both very good for different reasons, my favourite of the two would be the Lash Boost Mascara, here, because of the wand. This style of wand is my absolute favourite just because of the way it separates my lashes and makes them look so much fuller. Thats what makes this one my favourite, and even as a base for the Lengthy Fibre Mascara it works really well.

Now I saved the best to last... Can we just talk about how GORGEOUS this blush palette is?! I have honestly fallen in love with this and I don't think I will use much else bar this from now on, I will definitely be travelling with this palette. There is a really beautiful range of shades in this palette, from a coral shade at the top left to two mauve shades at the bottom (my personal favourites, especially for this time of year) the other shades including the coral shade will be really amazing for the summer time when I prefer to wear some more colour on my face. I think the packaging of this product is stunning and you can get little books of contour as well on the site so I just want them all to stack like little books! You can get 15% off Pixi products also if you shop via Wearisma!
Buy this beauty here and the contour book here!

I hope you really liked this brand focus style post, I would really love to do some more of these so please do let me know if there are any brands that you would like to see reviewed or any products you'd like reviews for!

I hope you're all really well!

Thigh Highs, Always a Favourite

Happy New Year everyone! I thought I would kick the year off with one of my favourite looks I shot last year but haven't had chance to upload for you all! I just wanted to say a huge thank you for supporting me throughout last year, whether you have been a lover of my blog (and if you are I cannot thank you enough and I hope I am able to give you the content you deserve to be reading!) or my Instagram I am just so grateful for all the opportunities I have had the past year thanks to all of you. I cannot wait to see what is to come this 2016, I cannot wait to find out.
If you'd like to hear more about this outfit and where to get the pieces or similar then please keep scrolling!

The back end of 2015 was without a doubt obsessed with thigh high boots and I more than adopted the trend, and loved every second of it. I currently have 3 pairs of thigh highs and wear them far too regularly! This pair was the first pair of thigh high boots I owned and they were from In The Style (I have 10% off the ENTIRE website with HAYLEIGH10!) and I really loved them when I first got them. I have always been a boot wearer, they are just very much my own personal style and the fact that there are so many variations makes me a very happy girl. What struck me the most was how much longer they made my legs look and how slimming they really were. I am not exactly the tallest, being only 5ft2/3 I do not exactly tower over anyone, therefore this also means I do not have the longest legs in the world! However I really did love how these made my legs look. I now have my absolute favourite pair of black heeled thigh highs like these from Public Desire and a black suede pair that are flat and I can wear more everyday from Miss Pap (I also have a code for Miss Pap as well actually also for 10% off the whole site with HAYLEIGH10, do let me know in the comments if you treat yourself to anything!).

I absolutely adore my black pairs however these are really nice when I am wearing mostly black and want to bring in a more nude palette with my make up and shoe choice. I paired this AX Paris lace dress with the boots alongside one of my mother's old coats from when she was younger that I have very much adopted as my own.
This look is really easy to recreate in lots of different ways which I why I really love it, I really do recommend thigh high boots if you are a fan of the trend itself or like the idea of your legs looking a little longer or a little slimmer especially if you're somewhat vertically challenged like I am! You can pair thigh highs with so many different dresses whether they be more going out and party dresses or simply just a jumper dress (they look so good with thigh high boots please just try it for me).
